Sami arrives in Chicago to accept a position with a large manufacturing firm, but there’s been some downsizing since he was recruited and the best the company can offer him is a temporary draftsman position in a cramped, collective basement office, preparing technical drawings for the imperious staff engineers. in 1979 from a rural Indian village where he grew up under the watchful eyes of his caring mother and his now-deceased father, a renowned tiger hunter. People telling me about 13 guys sleeping on the floor like sardines, people sharing like one single suit and waiting around in their underwear and scheduling their entire interviews around it, and a lot of those stories are what came to be in the movie.Khan begins by evocatively establishing the foundations of young engineer Sami Malik’s (Danny Pudi) conflicted decision to emigrate to the U.S. "One story he told was he had to steal a stool sample to get into the country, and I was just randomly telling that to somebody at my work," said Khan. "I was at a production company at the time, and they were just cracking up, and so I just started asking for stories from other people, other immigrants, random things.
Khan got the idea for the film after hearing stories from her father and interviewing around 50 others about what it was like immigrating to the United States. He seeks to find a successful job to live up to the legacy of his father and impress his childhood crush, but not everything turns out exactly as he plans. The film tells the story of a young Indian man who comes to America in the 1970s. It's fun to watch the movie and then talk to people after they've seen (it) because luckily this is a good movie, a great movie if you will. Heder and Manji said they were interested in what the moviegoers would have to say.

Heder took his time walking down the red carpet, signed autographs and posed for selfies with fans in attendance before heading to the screening.
